Black Resistance in the face of Oppression

How are you resisting oppression? Joy is a form of resistance. Being a well educated Black person is a form of resistance. Being a “good” Black Father is a form of resistance. Because these actions dismantle the racial stereotypes we’ve been battling for hundred of years. The angry black woman. The uneducated negro. The absent father. We resist these oppressive stereotypes by living our best lives.

A racist person does not like to see, read, or hear about successful Black people. It goes against everything they were taught. They view successful Black people as the exception as opposed to being the norm. When Black people are portrayed as criminals on TV, in movies and in the news, it solidifies their beliefs. It justifies their long held beliefs of Blacks being criminals.

Everyone is not able to march through the streets. Everyone is not able to give huge amount of money to organizations. Or start a Black owned business. But by living your best life you contribute to the cause of dismantling racist structures and belief. You put the racist in a confused state. You set the foundation and provide examples for your children to live by and build upon. You’re leaving a legacy.

So continue being the good Black father, the good Black mother, friend, business person, educated Black person. Continue to fight the good fight and live your best life.
