Rested or Unproductive?

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

For some people, lazy days are the ultimate indulgence—a chance to unwind, recharge, and embrace a slower pace. But if you’re anything like me, a self-proclaimed busy bee riddled with anxiety and a constant case of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), lazy days don’t feel quite so restful. Instead, they can leave you feeling like you’ve lost a battle against your own productivity.

It’s a struggle, isn’t it? I crave rest, but the second I indulge in it, that nagging voice creeps in: “Shouldn’t you be doing something? Aren’t you wasting valuable time?” It’s as if my brain is wired to believe that productivity equals worth. So, when I give in to a lazy day, rather than feeling relaxed, I’m left feeling unproductive, restless, and guilty.

Let’s talk about this FOMO for a minute. While some might fear missing out on social events or the latest trends, I’m over here worrying about missing out on my own life. It feels like every moment spent binge-watching Netflix or scrolling aimlessly through social media is time I could have used to check off that never-ending to-do list, move closer to a goal, or accomplish something big…heck, even something small!

I know this probably isn’t the healthiest mindset. Trust me, I’m aware. But it’s hard to shake. The constant hustle culture surrounding us screams, “Stay busy, stay relevant, stay ahead,” so even when my body needs a break, my mind refuses to give me one.

For me, the idea of doing “nothing” doesn’t equate to rest; it equates to falling behind. And that’s anxiety’s playground. Instead of feeling rejuvenated after a day of rest, I end up feeling more anxious, wondering what I could have been doing with those precious hours. It’s like my internal clock doesn’t know how to hit the snooze button.

But here’s the silver lining: I’m working on it. I’m learning that rest is essential and doesn’t make me any less productive in the long run. While lazy days may currently leave me feeling unproductive, I’m starting to realize that they might be the reset button I need to avoid total burnout. Baby steps, right?

So, to answer the question: Do lazy days make me feel rested or unproductive? Unproductive, hands down. But I’m learning that maybe feeling “unproductive” every once in a while is okay. After all, even busy bees need to rest.
